The Truth about marriage

1. My hubby is my best bud
If that's what you think then you're in for a super duper disappointment. Of course you do get close after several months and years of marriage, but before that you have to learn each others foibles and annoying quirks, nurse each other through bad times and disappointments, and that will take time!

2. I'd get laid everyday
Ha ha - dream on! Married couples can't have sex
everyday as they are too tired with work to find time for it. And there are so many other things to do around the house that you're lucky if you even get to cuddle!

3. Babies will bring us closer
Babies are great but the initial process of delivery and bringing up a child in the first few months is tough on your body and emotions. You'll feel that you're doing the bulk of the work and may get real angry and that may put a wall between you two. Not that parenting
isn't great, but only if you both work at it.

4. If we fight then we'll grow apart

Not true! When you enter into marriage, you're still two different people and the only way you can get issues settled is to talk about them. Some times you may get angry but unless you talk you cannot settle issues.

5. Love will keep us alive
Yes it's obviously a must have but the binding add on is commitment, companionship, and trust. The happiest couples are people who have become friends over time and have similar interests and values.

Although these are just a few of the myths which abound regarding marriage, don't feel discouraged. Consider your marriage as a partnership where you have to earn each others trust and companionship and you'll do much better!

Reasons that you are not ready for marriage

1. You are more concerned with the wedding than the marriage.
If you are more excited about the idea of a grand wedding than spending your life with your partner, then, you are definitely not ready. Take out time to find out details about your partner rather than about the decoration you will use at the wedding.

2. There's not enough trust between you two.
Trust is the most important aspect of a successful marriage. If trusting your partner completely
doesn't come easily to you, it's best you stay away from marriage.

3, You always want your way.
You will never have a successful marriage unless you have a willingness to compromise. You could either be a selfish person and have everything your way or be selfless and focus on your loved one. If you choose to go with the former choice, marriage is not a good idea for you.

4. Your vitals don't match.
By vitals, we mean your values, personality type and common goals. If you're heading to the altar without your relationship vitals in place, your marriage could turn out to be a big disaster.

5. You are being pressurised.
Indian parents are known to pressurise their kids into marriage once they turn a certain age. But, whether it's your parents or peers, don't ever take the plunge unless you yourself are certain about marriage.

6. You are not sexually attracted to him.
He may be the most amazing and understanding guy you know. But, if he is not able to get your heart racing, your marriage will lack one of the most important ingredients.

7. You are battling an addiction or mental health condition.
A study showed that marriages that comprised a partner who was battling an addiction didn’t last for too long. So, if you're an alcoholic, drug addict or have any other addiction, get treated before you take the plunge.

8. It's not only about you two.
Marriage also brings together families and circles of friends of the couple. So before taking the big step ask yourself at what cost are you in this relationship? If you have to give up your family or friends, the cost is too high.

9. Your mind and heart wanders.
If you have even 10% of doubt that you could do better or someone better could be around the corner, marriage is not for you. Marry a person only if you are 100% sure about them and you know they are the best for you and your life.

10. You don't like anyone invading your space. We all need our space and alone time. But, if you crave for your own space all the time and can't stand another person in your room or house, then it's best you stay away from marriage.
